This build-your-own crochet kit is a perfect way to start your crochet journey or to add to your crochet tools and repertoire.

Yarn

Choose either of the following:

• 25g of British Bluefaced Leicester wool
  This is a very high quality wool in a DK weight from a brand with an excellent record of promoting sustainable, natural and indigenous fibres. This wool is made from 100% Bluefaced Leicester fleece: supremely soft, subtly sheeny, this is Britain’s most luxurious fibre. At Little Conkers, I don’t believe beginners should struggle with inferior materials.

• 100g pure British wool AND 50g recycled cotton
  The lovely DK-weight wool yarn is reared, sheared and spun in the UK. The recycled cotton is 4ply-weight. With this option you will have ample yarn to tackle several of the projects in the ‘A Little Course in Crochet’ book described below.

DK weight wool yarn is perfect for your first steps in crochet when used with the 4mm hook supplied in the kit. 4ply weight is perfect for practising lighter crochet stitches with a 3mm or 3.5mm hook.

Crochet hooks

Choose the number and size of crochet hooks to add to your kit. The options provided are the most commonly-used sizes for beginners to tackle most projects.

I offer lovely bamboo crochet hooks by haberdashery experts Pony. Bamboo is a sustainable material, but as well as being environmentally-friendly, it is also a pleasure to use. Warm to the touch and 60% lighter than traditional aluminium hooks, many crocheters report they can work more comfortably and for longer with a bamboo hook. Bamboo is strong and flexible and the hooks also improve with age!

Learn to Crochet Book

‘A Little Course in Crochet‘ from Dorling Kindersley is one of the most popular and well-reviewed beginner crochet books available.

This hardback book is not a brief introduction to crochet, but a very comprehensive 192 pages of expertise, guiding you from the very first steps to quite advanced techniques using clear illustrations and photographs. RRP: £12.99

Please note that the book is written in UK crochet terminology, although it does include an explanation of US crochet terminology, so this book is not recommended for US customers or those preferring to learn the US crochet terminology. Do ask if you have any questions about this – it is a common area of confusion for beginners.

Recycled Notepad (personalisable)

These eco-friendly recycled notepads can be personalised with your own text on the front. The A6 size is perfect for keeping with your crochet projects for making notes as you work, and it also includes handy rulers on the inside cover. See here for more details about the crochet notepads.

The notepad will be printed with the text “my crochet notes” as shown in the main pictures above, or you can choose to personalise it with your own text or dedication – for example “Nanny’s crochet notes” or “Lizzy’s Secret Crochet Plans”.

Mini Yarn Skeins

Choose to include two super-cute 10-metre mini yarn skeins in your kit, and I will pick two different, plastic-free yarns from my stash. These mini skeins are perfect for small motifs or testing out a stitch with a particular weight of yarn. You will receive two different skeins at random, although do ask if you have a colour preference and I will see what I can do.

Organic Cotton Drawstring Project Bag

These little bags are just the thing for yarn storage and you can’t have too many. They’re also perfect for taking small projects with you when you are out and about. Draw the bag loosely closed around your ball of yarn, and then hang it from your wrist or the arm of your chair while you crochet. No more chasing escaping balls of yarn across the floor!

These GOTS-certified bags are produced responsibly by a family run business in India using cotton from non-GM, small farms. The bags are machine washable at 40 degrees.

Set of 10 Bamboo Marking Pins

These bamboo pins are for holding sections of knitting and crochet together when joining. They are a good size and length to hold thick yarn pieces, where small steel pins used for holding fabric just aren’t suitable. The natural texture of the bamboo keeps the pin from sliding out and the tips are specially shaped to prevent the pins from splitting your yarn. You can even use them as simple shawl pins if you wanted to!

Scissors in Case

Handy scissors in their own cute case, perfect for keeping safely in your project bag without them getting tangled with other things.

The metal scissors are approximately 4.5 x 10cm, and the case is 100% cotton.
