I was really excited to move on to this new section of the seed packet blanket. One thing I love about crochet over knitting is how much more quickly it ‘grows’ (at least for me), so I knew this section was going to make a rapid transformation to this WIP.

The design for this blanket is Marion Mitchell’s Seed Packet Blanket.

In the rest of the blanket, I’m planning to use a wider selection of colours, including the very light and very dark sections of my palette. The design of Section 2 includes small dots of contrasting colours between the main stripes which are a great place to use up some of the colours I have but that I don’t want to dominate the design.

I played with the colour layout in Excel as usual. I knew I wanted to edge the central panel with the mid-tone brown, and that I wanted the last round before the squares of Section 3 to also be a mid-tone. It made sense therefore for it to be green. Then I wanted the other stripes to be dark colours with light/very light dots. This is what I settled on:

I was able to include the much brighter ‘Sage’ colour that I wasn’t sure about in one of the dc rounds, and I’ve used the ‘Toy’ colour I’m really trying to use up for two of the sc rounds. It’s a great place to use up colours you don’t want to particularly show off.
It’s getting harder to take pictures of the whole blanket!
I’m really pleased with how this is looking and even more with how well designed the pattern is. Marion really understands how to space crochet stitches, given that they are not symmetrical and lean to one side – turning so as to work on both sides and tackling corners and joins correctly are key.
