About this section
You may be relieved to know that after the tricker knitting in the last section of the scarf, you should find this garter stitch rib pattern easy by comparison. There is no increasing or decreasing to do this week either – happy knitting!
As you begin Section 6, you are at the mid-point in this scarf, so by the time you finish this section you can say you’re half way through the whole project, when seaming, sewing in ends and the edging are taken into account.
The pattern
For stitch information and abbreviations, please see the Sampler Infinity Scarf Pattern – Introduction.
Before you start this section, check that you are about to start a right side row by looking back at Section 1 of your scarf, and check that you have 55 sts on your needle.
If you are using lifelines in this project, you probably placed one relatively recently. If you didn’t, now is a good time to place one.
Continue with your 5mm needles, but switch back to your main colour.
Row 1 [RS]: sl1 knitwise, k to end.
Row 2 [WS]: sl1 knitwise, k1, p3, [k3, p3] to last 2 sts, k2.
Rows 3-38: repeat Row 1 and Row 2 alternately.
This section should finish approximately 14cm long and the total length from the beginning of the scarf should now be around 83-85cm (33 inches). The scarf should be around 23-25cm (9-10inches) wide.
Variations
This section is a great one to extend if you want to lengthen your scarf. Just work more repeats of Rows 1 and 2 until you reach the length you desire. Always finish on a wrong side row, ready to start next week’s section on the right side again.
To reduce the length of this section, just omit an even number of rows.
