It’s been a while since I’ve been able to publish a crochet pattern, due to how busy I’ve been in my shop with physical orders, but this weekend I’ve had the opportunity to photograph and write up the next in my series of fun pumpkin and decorative gourd crochet patterns – the Bottle Gourd.

These shapes are just so delightful with their sinuous curves. Like my pears and aubergines, I just love watching the shapes form as I crochet.
My Bottle Gourd pattern includes two different designs written up in full and illustrated with colour photographs. It also includes further tips on how to vary the designs so that if you are making a collection of gourds for a display, they are not all uniform and identical.
Using DK (light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn and a 3.5mm (US size E-4) crochet hook the gourds are approximately 9cm long (Design 1) and 12.5cm long (Design 2), not counting the stalks. But you can choose a different weight yarn and appropriate hook to make larger or smaller gourds.
These Bottle Gourds mix and match particularly well with my Bi-coloured Pear Gourd Crochet patterns, shown here:
But for an eye-catching autumn centrepiece, combine them with more items from my range of mini pumpkin and decorative gourd crochet patterns (scroll down for more images and links).
As always the fully-illustrated, easy-to-follow pattern is available in both UK and US terminology and includes detailed notes on choosing your yarn and stuffing. The pattern also includes a tutorial on the invisible UK dc (US: sc) decrease which is a great trick to learn for your amigurumi and 3D crochet projects.
