About this section
This week we are knitting the final easy section of our stitch sampler scarf, which is the mirror image to the first section.
This section is approximately half the length (top to bottom) of the other sections in the scarf pattern.
The pattern
For stitch information and abbreviations, please see the Sampler Infinity Scarf Pattern – Introduction.
Check that you have 45 sts on your needles and are ready to work a right side row.
Continuing with your 5mm needles and main colour yarn:
Row 1 [RS]: sl1 knitwise, k to end.
Row 2: sl1 knitwise, k1, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Rows 3-9: repeat Row 1 and Row 2 alternately.
Stitch markers can be a helpful reminder to work border stitches differently to the rest of the row. Place one after the first two stitches, and one before the last two stitches on your needle if this helps. You don’t need anything fancy – I make my stitch markers from short scraps of yarn knotted into a loop.
Row 10 [WS]: sl1 knitwise, k to end.
Rows 11-20: repeat Row 1 and Row 2 alternately.
Row table
You can draw yourself the following table and cross off completed rows as you go:
If you can’t wait for next week to finish your scarf, the complete pattern is now available to download as a printer-friendly PDF! This premium version of the pattern is over 32 pages long, with row tables provided for every row in every section. Your download also includes a succinct version of the whole pattern which prints on a single sheet of paper, for those who don’t need all the detail and for ease of use when travelling!
This section should finish approximately 7-8cm long and 23-25cm (9-10inches) wide.
Variations
If you extended Section 1, you will probably also want to extend Section 10 in the same way to match (so the seam remains in the middle). Try to make sure that the purl ridges are evenly spaced across the whole of Sections 1 and 10.
For a straight scarf
If you are making a straight scarf then you will be omitting Section 10 altogether. Make sure that your Section 1 and your Section 9 are approximately the same length for a balanced look to your finished scarf.
That’s it for the final knit section of your infinity scarf! Next week we’ll be joining the two ends of the scarf together to create the loop and adding the finishing touch of a crocheted edging before of course weaving in any yarn tails.
Do post a comment below or add a photo to your Ravelry project showing how you’re getting on!
