Here is everything you need to know about my egg crochet pattern.
These crocheted eggs are a great introduction to crocheting 3-D and amigurumi pieces.
I designed this pattern very carefully to produce the perfect eggy shape. In a small-scale pattern like this, the exact placement of every stitch counts.
The eggs can be made most successfully in any yarn that is not stretchy, ensuring the eggs will hold their shape when stuffed. The eggs in these pictures are mare in organic cotton.
Worked with a 3.5mm hook and DK (light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn, a finished egg is approximately 5.5cm or 2inches long – approximately the size of a large hen’s egg.
However, you can use the same pattern to make eggs any size you like. Here’s one I made in Twool rope, that is the size of an ostrich egg!
The pattern contains details on yarn and stuffing quantities.
Once completed, you can of course add further detail to your eggs, such as a hanging loop or stitched details.
I recommend this egg pattern for beginners at crochet – it’s a perfect pattern for learning to crochet in the round if you have only crocheted flat pieces. It is also a great pattern for practicing forming a smooth, dense crochet fabric in the round before embarking on more fiddly amigurumi patterns.
