Knitting Gift Set – Eco-friendly and Plastic Free

I’ve had such fun creating these knitting gift sets, thinking of just what I’d like to receive, and how to make it eco-friendly.

They really are the perfect gift for knitters, both beginners and the more experienced.

After creating my Crochet Gift Set, I just knew I had to put together a similar box of eco-friendly treasures for knitters.

Knitting Notepad

The gift set includes one of my personalisable knitter’s notepads that have proved to be very popular little gifts in their own right. Every knitter always needs a handy notepad in their project bag, and I designed these myself to be the ideal style and size.

These little notepads are perfect useful for jotting down yarn notes, keeping track of rows and repeats, marking your place in a book or writing your next yarn shopping list.

By default, the notepad comes with “my knitting notes” on the front, but you can add your own personalised text to make it an extra-special gift.

The notepad is made from 100% recycled paper and card. The cover features my original drawing or crochet hooks and inside the cover you will find handy rulers in cm and inches – you never know when you’ll need to check something!

Bamboo Marking Pins

The box contains a set of 10 bamboo marking pins. These are perfect for holding sections together when joining the seams of knitted items. They are a good size and length to hold thick knitted fabrics where the steel pins used for holding fabrics just aren’t suitable. The natural texture of the bamboo keeps the pin from sliding out (much better than slippery steel) and the tips are specially shaped to prevent the pins from splitting your yarn.

You can even use them as simple shawl pins if you wanted to!

Drawstring Bag

Next, the set contains a GOTS-certified organic cotton drawstring bag. These little bags are just the thing for yarn storage and you can’t have too many. They’re also perfect for taking small projects with you when you are out and about. Draw the bag loosely closed around your ball of yarn, and then hang it from your wrist or the arm of your chair while you crochet. No more chasing escaping balls of yarn across the floor!

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) standard for organic fibres means the entire textile supply chain is independently certificated on both ecological and social criteria. These bags are produced responsibly by a family run business in India. The cotton is grown on non-GM, small farms in South India. It is then woven in GOTS certified weaving units and sewn into bags. The bags are machine washable at 40 degrees.

Mini Skeins

If you purchase the gift set here on my own website, it also include two super-cute mini skeins. These 10m skeins are perfect for small motifs or testing out a stitch with a particular weight of yarn. You will receive two different weights and two different fibres (no plastics of course), with no two kits being the same. These skeins are not included in the gift sets on Etsy, which reflects the higher costs of selling on Etsy over my own website.

Up-cycled Gift Tags

The gift set also contains two handmade gift tags, which are perfect for adding to something you have knitted as a gift.

The tags are hand-punched by me from cereal packets and the like that would otherwise go to be recycled, and are therefore very eco-friendly. The tags are single-sided, the other side being the printed face of the original carton. They are strung on 100% recycled cotton ties.

You can also find the Knitting Gift Sets in the Little Conkers Etsy Shop.

Eco-friendly gift-wrapping for kits

Like all my crochet kits, the Knitting Gift Set is enclosed in a smart, recycled and re-usable box. I can gift-wrap the set in my environmentally-friendly gift-wrapping and send it directly to the recipient for you – such a time saver in the run-up to Christmas!
